Our Philosophy: It’s About the Relationship

At EverSummer Minis, our goal is not simply to raise a well-behaved puppy.
Our goal is to help you build a strong, trusting relationship with your dog.

Bonding comes first.

We believe that how you teach matters far more than what you teach. A puppy who feels safe, understood, and connected will naturally become more responsive, confident, and engaged.

We want your puppy to:

  • Feel safe in your presence
  • Trust you as their guide
  • Look to you when they are unsure

Training is not just about commands—it’s about communication.

What Is Puppy Culture?

Your puppy has been raised using the Puppy Culture curriculum—a structured, enrichment-based approach designed to support early neurological development, confidence, and communication.

We begin this work as early as 3 days of age, with short but highly intentional daily sessions. These are done individually with each puppy, as well as in group settings when appropriate (such as early potty training), allowing us to thoughtfully support both individual development and litter dynamics.

Over the course of those first 8 weeks, we use each day with purpose—building a strong foundation of meaningful behaviors that will support your puppy for life.

This means your puppy is already learning how to:

  • Communicate with you
  • Offer behaviors (be “operant,” not passive)
  • Think, problem-solve, and engage with their environment
  • Respond to gentle guidance rather than reacting out of fear or confusion

They are not just learning what to do—they are learning how to learn.

The Foundation Has Begun—Here’s What It Means for You

You can learn more about what we do—and why we do it—even before your puppy comes home through your online course, With Open Arms and a Level Head. Inside, you’ll find select video clips from the original Puppy Culture curriculum, giving you a window into the early training your puppy is already experiencing.

Around 4 weeks of age, we begin a series of short, intentional daily exercises that introduce foundational concepts such as taking a treat from our hands and becoming “operant”—meaning your puppy learns to actively offer behaviors that can be rewarded. One of the most meaningful skills we teach is “manding,” where puppies learn to sit (instead of jumping) to ask for attention and interaction. This is why our puppies are much more likely to sit rather than jump when they want to engage with you.

You can explore these exercises further in Section 14 of your course.

At this age, even a very small investment of time—just 60–90 second sessions, twice a day—can create tremendous impact. When you continue building on these foundations at home, skills like leash walking, attention, and overall communication become significantly easier and more natural to teach.

By the time your puppy comes home, they are not starting from scratch. In addition to being introduced to a potty area within their playpen, they are already beginning to think, communicate, and engage with you—setting the stage for a smoother, more connected training journey together.

A Thoughtfully Enriched Start

In addition to our daily training exercises, we are very intentional about creating an enriched environment for our puppies. This includes age-appropriate challenges such as varied surfaces (including those “wobbly” ones), getting used to house noises (vaccum sounds, door bell, kids playing etc), safe exploration, and gentle problem-solving opportunities—all designed to build confidence, resilience, and curiosity.

We also place a strong emphasis on socialization. Thanks to a wonderful community of friends, our puppies are thoughtfully exposed to a variety of people, including children, babies, and older adults. These early, positive experiences help them grow into well-rounded, adaptable companions who are comfortable engaging with the world around them.

Our Commitment to You: Support for a Lifetime

In addition to the work we do with our puppies, we are deeply committed to equipping you with the knowledge and resources to continue what has been started. The first 12 weeks of a puppy’s life leave a lasting imprint—for better or for worse—and we want to help you make the most of this important window.

Through guidance and support, we’ll help you navigate common challenges like puppy biting and make early skills such as leash training and attention feel more natural and achievable.

Our ultimate goal is for you to build a lasting, meaningful relationship with a well-rounded puppy. The work we put in early is our gift to you—so that life with your puppy feels more natural, connected, and truly enjoyable.

And our support doesn’t end when your puppy goes home—we are here for you every step of the way, for life.
